Our little Democrat

This morning on the way to school, we passed one of those Liberty Income Tax places and there was a woman dressed like Lady Liberty outside. You've seen her. The one in the green robe waving the big foam finger trying to attract attention so we'll all rush right out and file those 1040 forms.

Sophie: Why is that lady dressed like that?
Mom: She's trying to attract attention for that business.
Sophie: What business?
Mom: That income tax business.
Sophie: What's income tax.
Mom: Well, you know how mom and dad go to work to earn money? That's also called income. And we pay a portion of that to the government. That's called tax. That tax pays for roads, and services and schools and things.
Sophie: I'm glad I have such a nice school to go to.

We're raising such a nice little liberal (sorry Joe).

She has a workbench!

There were a couple of things that were too bulky for Santa to haul all the way to El Paso, so Sophie discovered the pink princess castle pop-up tent and the wood worker tool bench under the tree when we got home.
I know, those two gifts sound like a giant contradiction, but at least she'll be well-rounded. The funny part is, the princess tent was Dad's idea, and Mom asked Santa to bring the workbench.

Snow in Boca Raton?

Uh-oh, someone needs a time out

Just now, totally random, related to absolutely nothing.

Sophie: Dad, do you know what Uncle Tom says every time someone says, "Do you know what?"
Dad: What?
Sophie: Chicken butt.
Dad: He does?
Sophie: Yeah, and it's like, really not good. Maybe he needs a time out.

New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum

On the last day of our Texas adventure, we headed just across the border to the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces. They have all kinds of great exhibits and livestock.

Cousin Tyler and Sophie grind corn.
Milking Bessie. Sophie said, "No Tyler, that's for the cows, not for you!"
Cousin Tim and Sophie play checkers in the mercantile.
So sad to say goodbye to everyone. We miss you mucho!

I Can Do That!

We played several rousing rounds of the Dr. Seuss card game "I Can Do That" with the cousins in El Paso. Sophie got it in her Christmas stocking and it was a huge hit with kids of the big and small variety.

Joey penguin walks to the sink and back with the fish between his knees.
Choose wisely, grasshoppah...
Nick skips around a chair with the fish on his head.
Tyler skips back from the bathtub(?) with the fish between his elbows.
I have no idea what was going on here, but this game sure is fun.

El Paso redux

We're home now and trying to get back to our usual routine. But we had so much fun with everyone in Texas.

Some well-placed graffiti we found in a drainage culvert.
A monkey on the monkey bars.
Cousin Tim pushes Sophie, cousin Tyler, and Tim's girlfriend Molly on the tire swing.
Tim and pretty Molly.
Cousin Michelle and Sophie: two techno kids on their iPods.
Aunt Marcy and Sophie at Grandma T's house.
Sophie stops running around for a nanosecond to put in the last piece of the puzzle with Godfajah Joey.
Even though he's a linebacker on the Thunderbird's football team, Tim's not too tough to get on the floor and color fairy princesses with Sophie. We love you.
Uncle Don is such a sweetheart!
